- Programma:
The program is devoted to the theoretical studies and experimental activity on topics related to the building and architectural acoustics and to environmental noise control.
Within this context building elements and materials, HVAC components and machinery for civil and industrial application are analysed and tested in the Applied Acoustics Laboratory.
The Applied Acoustics Laboratory started in the second half of the 90’s to expand the research works on building acoustics and acoustic design of machinery and equipment and to acquire and perform researches on behalf of third parties (industry, public administration, etc.).
The laboratory took an active part in the International Measurements & Testing Programme 1990-1994 “Intercomparison of Laboratory Measurements of Airborne Sound Insulation of Walls”, managed by University of Ferrara, with the participation of 24 European acoustic laboratories (http://web.unife.it/progetti/inter_lab/).
Building Acoustics
From year 2000 until today a large number of researches concerning the sound insulation performances of building elements have been carried out with the support of several public agencies and other industrial partners.A relevant number of contracts and industrial research projects have permitted to perform several hundreds of experimental setups for the evaluation of sound reduction of building elements.
As a consequence of these research activities, a large database of the acoustic behaviour of building materials and constructing elements has been created.
Nowadays, data processing of these results is used in order to improve predictive methods for the estimation of the acoustic performance of buildings accordingly to EN 12354 standards from the performance of their composing elements.
Architectural Acoustics
Research activities of the Applied Acoustics Laboratory pertain also to architectural acoustics topics. In particular, reverberant sound field in concert hall simulation techniques and innovative methodology for measurement of acoustic quality parameter have been developed with the collaboration of several Italian Universities.
HVAC & Machinery Acoustics
The objectives research activities in the area of HVAC and machine acoustics are the investigation of sound emission from heating and air-conditioning equipment or other types of machines, the development of measures to satisfy specific acoustic requirements and the assistance to product design.
Environmental Acoustics
Research topics related to environmental acoustics, noise pollution control and noise planning have been developed with the collaboration of the environmental department of several local administrations.
